A history of meeting the needs of our customers
Metl-Span began in 1968 as Controlled Building Systems Corporation in Dallas, Texas. Hussmann Corporation acquired the company in 1974 renaming it Metl-Span Insulated Panel Division. The company returned to private ownership in 1983 and moved the operation to new, expanded facilities in Lewisville, Texas. In 1990, Grupo IMSA made a minority investment allowing the company to expand production capability with its first continuous, foamed-in-place production line. Grupo IMSA acquired 100% ownership in 1994 and approved the 1999 expansion to Virginia. This expansion doubled the company's production capability and improved its ability to serve the eastern regions of North America. In 2007, Metl-Span began operation of its fourth facility in Shelbyville, IN. This enabled the company to quickly respond to customer's needs in all parts of the US. Metl-Span was purchased by BlueScope Steel Limited in 2008.
